2,700 health jobs are unfilled since restriction on recruitment

NEARLY 2,700 posts in the health service have gone unfilled since controversial recruitment restrictions were implemented last autumn, according to a financial report given to the board of the Health Service Executive (HSE) last week.
The report says that overall numbers employed in the health service have now fallen for seven months in a row, and stood at 110,297 at the end of March.

How Independent Will the New County Health Board Really Be?

Just a week after Todd Stroger announced his nine nominees to head up the independent board that will operate the county hospitals, it was revealed that the former head of the Health Services Bureau is still calling the shots. Stroger said that Dr. Robert Simon had conducted the interviews for those nine candidates. Simon resigned his position as head of the Health Services Bureau last month.

New medical research

Men who practise yo-yo dieting are at much higher risk of developing fragile bones later in life, says a 28-year study of 4,601 men. The more frequently men slimmed down and regained weight between the ages of 25 and 50, the more likely they were to suffer a fractured forearm after the age of 50, investigators at Oslo's Norwegian Institute of Public Health write in the American Journal of Epidemiology
